Rest In Power, Alicia Cardenas.
Alicia Cardenas was a Denver-based multi-disciplinary artist and performer. The force behind Sol Tribe Tattoo and Piercing, Cardenas was also a designer of Dia de Los Muertos and other ceremonies drawing from her indigenous Mexican-Coloradan roots.
Monday evening, Alica and four others were murdered during a horrible killing spree.
Alicia's rituals were a source of inspiration for our parade and burning on the Winter Solstice. Fusing our NYC street senseabilities with Alicia's customs and other's, HONK NYC humbly attempted to replicate and continue the work of release and renewal Alicia so advanced and advocated for in contemporary American culture.
She leaves behind a huge, grieving creative community, an influential small business, and one very special offspring who was her world.
Please read more about Alicia in the links in our story, and consider donating to her family's fund.
Rest in Peace, Alicia. Thank you for your visionary guidance and leadership as we navigate an ever-increasing troubled era. You remain our light.
It’s been one week since Radiant Revelry. Thank you to all who shared their love, grief, and hope 🖤
